Understanding Testing: How to Know if Your CBD Oil Is Pure

If you’re a relatively new or loyal CBD customer, the quality of the products you choose likely crosses your mind. However, it’s also important to many people, now more than ever, to find quality products that are also affordable. But how can you be sure you’re getting what you think you’re getting? You may often wonder how to know if your CBD oil is pure. While “purity” comes down to a variety of factors, we’ll discuss a few key things to consider.

What is third-party testing?

Thorough testing is imperative for any product — especially products that we put in our bodies. To further motivate transparency and objectivity, of course, testing cannot occur exclusively in-house. This is where third-party testing comes in. In the case of CBD, third-party testing sends products to unaffiliated labs. These labs are then freely able, without pre-judgment, to evaluate for a variety of things. Often, third-party labs have intense accolades and reputations of sophistication. Some brands on Direct CBD Online are even evaluated by government agencies to ensure best practices as regulations continue to develop.

Labs often test primarily for:

  • Purity: Purity, in and of itself, also involves a lot of things. The test will evaluate for traces of solvents, chemicals, toxins, and anything else that may have infiltrated the soil of the hemp plant prior to the oil’s extraction.
  • Potency: For the potency aspect of lab-testing, this focuses more so on the cannabinoid content of the product. Does it actually have as much CBD in it as it says it does? How diluted has the CBD become due to other additives (like flavoring, carrier oils, etc.)?

How to access third-party test results

So, how can you access the test results of your favorite brands? You can rest assured that every product on Direct CBD Online meets — if not exceeds — the industry’s highest standards. To easily access individual results for your favorite products on our site, go to the product’s page and view them under the “Lab Results & Analysis” tab toward the bottom of the page. You may also visit the brand’s respective home site or look up the product’s results with its batch number.

Unsure what a batch number is? Check out the infographic from our blog: What to Look for on CBD Oil Labels.

What to Look for on CBD Oil Labels. Dropper/Cap, Flavor Indicator, x mg - amount of cbd in the whole bottle, x mg per serving - amount of cbd per serving, ingredient list - this includes the carrier oil and other flavors, batch number - important! this can help you find lab results (can be found on either the bottle or the box).
