Using CBD & Hemp Products
It always varies by person and individual needs. We recommend beginning with half a dropper and slowly increasing the dosage as needed. You will also have to use CBD oil consistently over a few weeks for the effects to occur. If your desired effects are not achieved within this time, you can safely increase your dosage, use a higher concentration, or try a different oil.
It varies with needs. We recommend starting with a small amount once or twice per day and slowly increasing as needed. You should always follow package instructions as well as any advice from your healthcare provider.
Fill the dropper with the recommended amount for serving size (found on the bottle) and place the oil under your tongue. Hold it under your tongue for about 30 seconds before swallowing for maximum absorption. If you prefer, you can also mix tinctures and oils into beverages, smoothies, and other foods. Keep in mind the effects won’t occur as quickly. You may also be interested in water-soluble tinctures and other products.
Hemp extract is the total amount of phytocannabinoids and plant matter that comes from hemp. This extraction process can occur in a variety of ways. Depending on what occurs during this process, hemp producers are then able to create full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate CBD (or another cannabinoid) formulas.
Hemp seed oil offers its own unique health benefits but does not contain CBD oil in itself. CBD is found in specific parts of the hemp plant and in oil extracted from these parts of the hemp plant. Learn more in our information guide.
Finding the right CBD product or brand for you may be a process of trial and error. It may come down to a lot of factors, including the strength, serving method, flavor, and formulation. It will also depend on your overall health, which is why it’s important to involve your doctor in your search. Everyone is different, that’s why it’s great that there are so many options available!
There are some key differences between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate formulas. Full-spectrum will have the most amount of plant material and content. Likewise, some argue it has the most benefits. However, it will have trace amounts of THC (less than the legal limit of 0.3%). Therefore, it’s not the best option for those who are subject to drug testing. Broad-spectrum has a slightly lower concentration of various plant matter. It will have less than trace amounts of THC. Because of their high amounts of plant matter, full and broad-spectrum products will have a hemp-like taste. Isolate products are essentially “pure.” They will only have that cannabinoid listed and do not have a hemp-like taste.
If you see a variety of codes and numbers on your CBD bottle or product, you shouldn’t feel overwhelmed. It’s easy to determine what each of these things mean with our quick guide to reading CBD oil labels.
The entourage effect describes the synergy of different plant compounds and cannabinoids working in concert. Your body’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is then better able to absorb these compounds. Plus, these compounds simply work better together. That being said, isolate cannabinoid products work very well for some people. It all depends on your preferences and unique body.
CBG and CBG oil are very similar to CBD and CBD oil. CBD is actually a derivative of CBG and they are both cannabinoids that come from the hemp plant. Both CBD and CBG have been shown to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and are being further researched. Full-spectrum CBD products often contain CBG. CBG may also help with mental clarity as well as digestive issues. Learn more about CBG in our blog or check out CBG products.
CBN is another cannabinoid that can be extracted from hemp. It is also not psychoactive. CBN has shown promise in various studies as being beneficial for helping you fall asleep quicker and getting better rest. Check out CBN products here.
CBDa, or cannabidiolic acid, is a precursor to CBD. It exists naturally in hemp as well. However, with the addition of heat, CBDa breaks down into CBD. CBDa is being studied as a powerful anti-inflammatory and pain-reliever.
CBD beverages are a fantastic way to recover, hydrate, and replenish yourself as you unwind. Some varieties are also packed with vitamins and caffeine for energy. So, you can really find a drink suited to your needs, no matter what the day brings you. You can even use them to create your own cocktails, mocktails, lattes, and more. Plus, CBD beverages (and, similarly, water-soluble CBD) can even offer better absorption of CBD content thanks to nanotechnology.
CBD & Health
It’s important to talk to your physician before adding CBD to your regimen. He or she can help you better understand your symptoms and if CBD is right for you.
Some of our products have trace amounts of THC in them. However, these levels are well below the legal limit of 0.3% (as set in the 2018 Farm Bill). It’s possible to test positive for THC in a drug test because, at the molecular level, THC and legal cannabinoids appear very similar. Tests have not been created yet to differentiate between the two. You can learn more about CBD and drug testing here. Always consult a product’s “details page” to find accurate information about the products you buy — including whether it contains THC.
Delta 8 THC is another cannabinoid derived from hemp like CBD. It is very closely related to both CBD and THC. However, delta 8 is different from CBD and THC in a few key ways. First of all, it’s psychoactive, unlike CBD. That being said, the high from delta 8 is milder than THC (a.k.a. delta 9 THC). It is also federally legal like CBD under the 2018 Farm Bill. You can learn more about delta 8 in the links provided or on dd8shop.com.
ND THC means the THC in the product is non-detectable (hence ND). This means it has been tested likely by a third-party lab and THC was not found in it. However, this does not necessarily mean that all tests will not detect THC in or from the product. For more information, check out the blog, “how long does CBD stay in your system?”
No, ND THC and THC-Free do not mean the same thing. ND THC means that the THC is non-detectable, but it may still be present. THC-Free means that the product has been tested and either has less than or equal to 0.3% THC or THC was not detected in the product. Again, neither mean that the product has absolutely no THC in it or that every test will yield the same results. Your best bet for a truly THC-Free product would be a CBD (or other cannabinoid) isolate.
Many studies have shown that CBD may help with stress, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, alertness, focus, nausea, varieties of skin conditions, sore muscles and joints and many other issues. Read our blog to learn more about the benefits of CBD.
CBD is designed to work with your body naturally. Every vertebrate has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that can receive these plant compounds. Your ECS acts on things like your metabolism, mood, sleep, and more. Therefore, you have to take CBD consistently for a few days or even weeks to notice a difference. If still don’t see a change, it may be time to switch to a higher concentration or choose a different product. Always consult your healthcare provider, too. Here are some other ways to get CBD to work for you.
Depending on the ingredients in the CBD product you use, this can often determine if it will give you energy, calm you, or make you sleepy. You can learn more about how CBD affects energy in our blog.
We have a full blog about whether or not CBD makes you hungry. Of course, this will depend on your unique body. Always consult a physician before introducing CBD. It can certainly have benefits for those following a healthy diet as long as it is used properly.
Talking to your doctor about CBD may be intimidating, or you may simply not know where to begin. However, you may be surprised to learn that many doctors are on board with CBD as an alternative therapy (if it’s right for you!) Here are some more tips for talking to your doctor about CBD.
How long CBD stays in your system depends on a variety of factors — your body, how often you use CBD, what strength you use, and so on. CBD may remain in your system for 1–2 days or anywhere from 4–25 days. It is still being studied. There are a few ways to learn more about your CBD oil and if it is pure.
Storing CBD Products
CBD oil does not need to be refrigerated, but if you would prefer to take it chilled you can store it in your fridge without impacting the product. If you prefer storing your oil, tincture, capsules, etc. at room temperature, simply leave them in the bottle anywhere that isn’t exposed to constant light or heat.
Unless the packaging of your CBD product indicates you should store it in the fridge, you’re more than welcome to store it at room temperature. Keep it in a cool, dark place, such as a cabinet or desk drawer.
CBD for Pets
You have a lot of great options when it comes to giving your dog CBD. He or she may enjoy CBD-infused treats or may benefit from topical CBD. You can also administer the oil to your dog under their tongue or place it in his or her food. Check out this video to learn more.
You may have laughed a little, but this is a very common question. We cover it entirely in this blog, too. You may not wish to take a flavored CBD oil intended for pets, even though high-quality ones will only have human-grade flavorings. Unflavored pet CBD oils will also be THC-Free, as THC should not be given to animals. You should also keep in mind that the concentration of CBD in pet products is generally much less as pets are often much smaller than humans.
