What is CBDV?

What is CBDV?

CBDV or cannabidivarin is a cannabinoid. And it is a bit of a rockstar! CBDV is the source of the first FDA-approved CBD drug.

Let’s take a look at the new favorite child of cannabis.

What is CBDV?

Cannabidivarin is a nonpsychoactive chemical in the cannabis plant. Its structure is very similar to traditional CBD and tends to be found in higher concentrations in strains with naturally high levels of CBD.

To say that CBDV is not like the other cannabidiols would be a great understatement. Cannabivarin is one of the only derivatives of cannabis that is approved for use in medicine in the U.S. and in Europe. EPIDIOLEX® is the only treatment indicated for seizures associated with TSC, LGS, and Dravet syndrome in patients 1 year and older.

What are its benefits?

Like any other hemp and cannabis product, the research on CBDV is still very limited. This is because Cannabivarin is hard to isolate. Regulatory issues also still get in the way of cannabinoid research.

However, a special effort, enacted in 2014, allows clinical trials and studies on CBDV to treat epilepsy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. This research shows that CBDV affects the neurochemical pathway of the capsaicin receptors involved in both the onset as well as the progression of several types of epilepsy.

Cannabivarin is suspected to help with symptoms of a plethora of diseases such as Rett Syndrome, HIV, MS, IBS, and Crohn’s disease. More evidence is needed to rate its effectiveness.

Ok sounds cool. Where can I get some?

CBDV is still at the very beginning of its career, and because of its pharmaceutical predisposition, it is not available for sale as a health supplement yet.

If you would like to see if EPIDOLEX® is right for you, talk to your doctor about it and visit their website for more information.

Cannabivarin is counterindicated if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

That is all there is to know about CBDV for now, but we will be sure to stay on top of the latest news. Stay tuned for more to come and make sure to check out the cannabinoids currently available on Direct CBD Online!
