January Quick Hits

Depending on where you are, it was probably a long, cold January. It also wasn’t short on news from the CBD industry. In this month’s quick hits, Direct CBD Online covers an honor awarded to one of our pet brands, Treatibles, as well as developing research on CBD for Parkinson’s, why you shouldn’t buy CBD from Amazon, and more.

Treatibles’ Parent Company Receives NASC Seal

The National Animal Supplement Council is the authority on compliance and quality assurance — recognized by both consumers and pet industry professionals. The NASC takes pride in recognizing companies that are doing their part in keeping products honest and safe. Treatibles’ parent company, Auntie D’s Apothecary, recently received a seal, showing that the company is serious about NASC standards. The seal now proudly displays next to Treatibles products, which are also Compassion Certified®. “The Quality Seal from NASC ensures our customers that our products are adhering to the stringent protocols set forth by the NASC with guidance from the FDA and FDA-CVM (Center for Veterinary Medicine),” said Julianna Carella, CEO and founder of Auntie D’s Apothecary.

Trial Finds CBD Reduces Anxiety-Related Tremors in Parkinson’s Disease

A new study, published in the Journal of Pharmacology by a team of Brazilian scientists, points to CBD as a potential way to reduce anxiety and physical manifestations of anxiety in individuals with Parkinson’s. CBD has been studied in the past and found to be effective in suppressing different centers in the brain responsible for a variety of anxiety disorders. According to other reports, CBD can also improve the emotional well-being of individuals with Parkinson’s. The goal of this study, however, was to illustrate CBD’s effects on motor function, specifically tremors, which are tell-tale symptoms of Parkinson’s. Though the results were quite promising, they simply emphasize the need for further work, according to researchers.

Washington Post Covers for Amazon’s Supply Fraud

It’s likely that this is something no one wants to read — matters of health, misinformation, and the very individuals who are supposed to keep us accountable all ensnared. Both Amazon and The Washington Post dropped the ball on a few accounts, according to Mercola. Amazon prohibits the sale of CBD, yet allows retailers to advertise and tag products as having CBD. This lets retailers slip through the cracks — selling unsafe, unregulated merchandise that may or may not have CBD in it at all.

The Washington Post attempted to cover this lapse, yet, conveniently held back. After all, Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos also owns The Post. Instead of assigning blame to Amazon, it fell on the small shoulders of independent retailers. However, the true issue, according to Dr. Joseph Mercola, lies with Amazon’s “nobility” for turning away vetted, regulated CBD retailers while allowing others to make a buck. Long story short, you should stay up-to-date on FDA regulations and only buy from a retailer that takes the necessary steps to sell quality, lab-tested products. Here’s what else you need to know before buying CBD products online.
